SIRS, Sepsis, and Septic Shock Criteria defines the severity of sepsis and septic shock.
To define the severity of sepsis and septic shock.
Use in patients >=18 years old. Variables: -SIRS Criteria (≥ 2 meets SIRS definition): Temp >38°C (100.4°F) or < 36°C (96.8°F) Yes=1, No=0 Heart rate > 90 Yes=1, No=0 Respiratory rate > 20 or PaCO₂ < 32 mm Hg Yes=1, No=0 WBC > 12,000/mm³, < 4,000/mm³, or > 10% bands Yes=1, No=0 - Sepsis Criteria (SIRS + Source of Infection): Suspected or present source of infection Yes=1, No=0 - Severe Sepsis Criteria (Organ Dysfunction, Hypotension, or Hypoperfusion) Lactic acidosis, SBP <90 or SBP drop ≥ 40 mm Hg of normal Yes=1, No=0 - Septic Shock Criteria Severe sepsis with hypotension, despite adequate fluid resuscitation Yes=1, No=0 - Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome Criteria Evidence of ≥ 2 organs failing Yes=1, No=0 - Is this a COVID-19 patient? (For research purposes only; answer does NOT impact results.): Confirmed positive, Suspected, Unlikely, Confirmed negative Formula: Series of Yes/No questions Interpretation: SIRS - 2 YES answers meets criteria Sepsis Criteria - 2 YES of SIRS + Suspected Source of Infection Severe Sepsis Criteria - 2 YES of SIRS + Lactic Acidosis, SBP Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome - 2 YES of SIRS + Evidence of ≥ 2 Organs Failing
Not to be used for patients under 18 years old. Use the Pediatric SIRS, Sepsis, and Septic Shock Criteria for patients under 18.
