The Myocardial Performance Index (MPI), also known as the Tei Index, assesses global myocardial function through systolic and diastolic performance of the right and left ventricle.
To calculate left and right ventricular function.
Left Ventricle MPI formula: (MCOT – LVET) / LVET, Reference Values Normal range LV MPI = 0.39 ±0.05, Dilated cardiomyopathy = 0.59 ±0.10 Right Ventricle MPI formula: (TCOT – RVET) / RVET, Normal range RV MPI = 0.28 +0.04, Pulsed Doppler RV MPI - Abnormal values >0.40, Tissue Doppler RV MPI - Abnormal values >0.55. Where: MCOT – Mitral Valve Closure to Opening Time; TCOT – Tricuspid Valve Closure to Opening Time; LVET – Left Ventricle Ejection Time; RVET – Right Ventricle Ejection Time.
