Barthel Index for Activities of Daily Living (ADL) assesses functional independence by ranking patients in 10 different areas of daily activities.
Assesses functional independence, generally in stroke patients.
Rank the patient's independence in the following areas: Feeding, bating, grooming, dressing, bowel control, bladder control, toilet use, transfer(bed to chair and back), mobility on level surfaces and stairs. Scores for each areas sums up to a total score (Barthel Index) with the following limits: 80-100: Independent 60-79: Minimally dependent 40-59: Partially depentent 20-39: Very dependent <20 Totally dependent
