To guide severity classification, risk stratification, diagnostic, and management decisions in adult patients (≥18 years old) with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection in the emergency department.

Use to guide severity classification, risk stratification, diagnostic, and management decisions in adult patients (≥18 years old) with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection in the emergency department. for NIH severity criteria refer to: https://www.covid19treatmentguidelines.nih.gov/overview/clinical-spectrum/. PRIEST score and additional risk factors are used when the NIH severity score is mild or moderate. PRIEST score is used to predicts adverse outcome in adults presenting to ED with suspected COVID-19 and it consists of 10 elements: sex, age, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, heart rate, systolic BP, temperature, alertness, inspired oxygen and performance status. Covid-19 risk factors consist of 13 factors which are: cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes types II, Downs's syndrome, hypertension, immunosuppression, neurologic disease, obesity, obstructive sleep apnea, pregnancy, renal disease and steroid usage. the evidence on this topic is evolving quickly and may change.

Not to be used a substitute for clinicians' clinical judgement. Not to be considered as an exhaustive in regards to diagnostic and treatment recommendations for patients with COVID-19 and COVID-like illness. Not to be used for for patients presenting with symptoms conditions that may be manifestations of COVID-19 and may also be manifestations of other serious disease (e.g. MI, PE, stroke), they will require additional specific diagnostic and therapeutic interventions not discussed in this tool.
