Shock_Index v.1

Shock index is the ratio of Heart rate to systolic blood pressure and is considered more sensitive in identifying occult shock than individual vitals especially in the event of major trauma associated with severe hemorrhage.

To calculate the Shock Index.

Shock Index = Heart Rate / Systolic BP. An elevated Shock index > 0.8 is considered as early shock and may be associated with early mortality in cases of hypovolemia and shock due to trauma. Shock index can help in identifying trauma patients requiring transfusions or those patients who are at risk of developing post-intubation hypotension.

Use only for patients above 16 years, SIPA is more suitable for patients up to 16 years.
