Rule of 7s for Lyme meningitis is an assessment tool used for patients with risk factors for Lyme meningitis and distinguishes it from aseptic meningitis.
To calculate the Rule of 7s score and assess the risk of Lyme meningitis.
Use in pediatric patients in a Lyme endemic area to decide on starting the antibiotics. The rule of 7s is calculated based on three parameters: number of days of headache, CSF mononuclear cells and 7th (or other) cranial nerve palsy. Rule of 7s Risk 0 points Low risk for Lyme meningitis 1–3 points Not low risk for Lyme meningitis
Not to be used in other patients than in pediatric patients (2-18 years).
