NEDOCS score for emergency department overcrowding estimates severity of overcrowding in emergency departments.
To calculate the NEDOCS score and interpret the severity.
Use to calculate the NEDOCS score and interpret the result in order to estimate severity of overcrowding in emergency departments. Formula: Total points= Points for patindex + Points for admit index + Points for admit time + Points for registration time + Points for patients on respirator where Patindex = Total patients in the ED/Number of ED beds*62.5, Admit index = Number of admits in the ED/Number of hospital beds*444, Admit time = Waiting time of longest admitted patient*0.681, Registration time = Waiting time of longest waiting room patient*4.1 and Points for patients on respirator = 9.6 (if patients on ventilators in the ED = 1) or 19.8 (if patients on ventilators in the ED ≥2). Then, set NEDOCS score to 0, when Total points is <14, NEDOCS score to (1.37*Total points)-19.18, when total points is 14-160, NEDOCS score to 200, when Total points is >160. Score interpretation: Level: Score: Interpretation: Level 1 1-20 Not busy Level 2 21-60 Busy Level 3 61-100 Extremely busy but not overcrowded Level 4 101-140 Overcrowded Level 5 141-180 Severely overcrowded Level 6 181-200 Dangerously overcrowded
Do not use to calculate any other score for emergency department overcrowding, for instance PEDOCS score or CEDOCS.
