Cornell Assessment of Pediatric Delirium (CAPD) screens for pediatric delirium.

To calculate the total sum for the CAPD score.

Use to screen for pediatric delirium. The score is calculated by adding the points of the individual variables: Always- 0 points Often - 1 point Sometimes - 2 points Rarely - 3 points Never - 4 points Interpretation CAPD score >=9: Pediatric delirium present Recommendation: Investigate and treat underlying medical condition(s) causing delirium, consider interventions with parents and child life services, and/or consult to psychiatry or palliative care as appropriate, consider medications like melatonin or QUEtiapine (SEROquel) in select cases CAPD score <9: Pediatric delirium present Recommendation: Continue usual care and monitoring

Not to be used for patients with Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) ≤-4 (deep sedation: no response to voice, but movement or eye opening to physical stimulation, or unarousable: no response to voice or physical stimulation).
