The abbreviated mental test AMT 10 is used to assess mental impairment in elderly patients.

The Abbreviated Mental Test (AMT) or Hodkinson’s test is an assessment instrument used to screen for mental deterioration. It is also used to assess for mental confusion (including delirium) and other cognitive impairments. The patient will answer ten questions. Each question corresponds to 1 point if the patient answers correctly, 0 if not. In total,10 points can be given. The questions are exploring orientation in time and space, attention and memory. AMT-10 Score: 0-3 - Severe cognitive impairment 4-6 - Moderate cognitive impairment >6 - No delirium

AMT only qualifies as a screening instrument, and an abnormal performance should prompt detailed neuropsychologic assessment.
